Hello from Devin Startup Empty
MessageSujet: Hello from Devin Startup   Hello from Devin Startup EmptyMar 5 Avr - 19:08

My name is Devin Startup, 51 years of age.I currently live in the United States in the state of Utah in a small town called Spanish Fork

To this fabulous forum I send greetings and thanks to the administration for letting me be part of this forum. I must admit, that I have a language barrier I do not speak French but will try to understand tutorials and forums by using Google Translate.

I have very little formal training in jewelry and currently fabricate everything that I make I have no casting equipment whatsoever. I took two basic classes in South America (peru)when on vacation and learned a lot but I need more theory help.
I currently work mostly sterling silver and some gold but I'm limited technically. I can bezel set in a beginning way but have not learned to fabricate full prong settings and cluster rings excetera i do alot of cabochon setting. When I first started, I only hand pounded and Hand Forged my rings because i did not have a rolling mill and they were very ugly and rustic-looking it seems to be very popular in the United States for this kind of look but I want to learn more of a refined jewelry technique. I found your forum on Pinterest and looked at a couple of tutorials on cluster rings and decided to join. I know that the French are fabulous Fabricators and diamonds setters and I would be so thankfull to receive any help from anyone.

In my youth I always used the mentor system when I worked in the printing business. I am a registered nurse now and work in Pediatrics and jewelry is my hobby that brings in extra pocket cash.

If anyone is seeking some stone or Rock from Utah, please contact me I have many friends who are lapidary workers. I also cut 80% of my own cabochones.
I melt and alloy all my own silver and want to learn white gold and yellow gold.
I roll all my own findings, I even make my own solder sometimes.
In the past, I used old gasoline foot Bellows torches but now have changed to propane.
It has been a long 20 years learning things on my own through watching YouTube and other people I need some good foundation theorie. I need help in the layout I need help in Geometry theory for making settings. I want to learn as much as I can in the small amount of time I have left in this life. I have diabetes and I don't think I'll last more than 20 years but I am very motivated to learn.
Thanks again
Devin Startup

Merci encore Devin Startup

Hello Devin and welcome.
With 20 years of jewelry work, I'm sure you know more than you say you know!
Anyway, as a lot of the tutorials on the forum have pictures, it's generally easy to follow... plus Google translate and you can always ask for an explanation when you can't figure something out.
It's well worth crossing past the language barrier as this is by far the best jewelry forum on the whole world wide web. I myself am american and I don't even bother looking for jewelry techniques in English (somehow they always make it feel like arts and crafts, ranking jewelry with knitting and scrapbooking...)

Feel free to post as many messages or questions as you like, english is fine... a lot if us understand and can either answer in english or easier french.
And let us see your work in the section "vos bijoux et creations"!

Bonne journée
Anza

Hm... like email but available for the whole world to see and participate...

I'm on my phone, not my laptop so the links might be for mobile browsing. If so I'll correct them tomorrow.
Try this link for translation... I get all titles translated https://translate.googleusercontent.com/translate_c?depth=1&nv=1&rurl=translate.google.com&sl=fr&tl=en&u=https://bijouxalacheville.forumactif.org/&usg=ALkJrhgH3RyNNlSTERW_SU9QbvS9ctPaVg

Tutorials... here is a post referencing a large number of tutorials:
https://bijouxalacheville.forumactif.org/t6985-tutoriels-du-forum

And this is the jewelry learning/exercise section that I have basically taken over... as 90% of the subjects are from me... Wink
https://bijouxalacheville.forumactif.org/f28-exercices-de-bijouterie
Tomorrow I'll upload pictures for constructing a very basic claw setting, the first we learn as beginner jewelers.
